about

Dancing is the only piece on the EP not based on a traditional Javanese form. In the first section, the composition draws influence from a pattern called “Debyang-Debyung” for the two-handed mallet instrument called gender (here played by Wahyu). Basically I was looking for something between 80’s synth-pop and Javanese gamelan. I’m not sure why, but I like what happened. The mode is pelog barang (23567 in kepatihan cipher notation).

lyrics

Dancing
Not really my thing
You’re cool though I guess
I’ll do it, don’t tell anyone
Okay
